Tools For Success: Hour of Power by Jack Canfield

Hour of PowerYou’ve probably heard me use the term, “Hour of Power,” recently on my monthly Ask Jack calls or in my Success Strategies newsletter.  The Hour of Power is a highly effective tool I use daily, and it’s something I strongly urge you to do too!

So what is this Hour of Power exactly?  It’s a full hour that is broken up into three 20-minute sessions:

  • 20 minutes of exercise
  • 20 minutes of meditation
  • 20 minutes of reading (positive, uplifting material)

You can switch the order of the 3 activities and you can also choose what hour of the day you’d like to reserve for your personal Hour of Power.  I usually schedule my Hour of Power for the first hour I’m awake in the morning.  This really jumpstarts my day, and allows me to feel energized, focused, and engaged.

And each day, I change my routine a tiny bit….so one day I might exercise by taking a 20-minute walk around my neighborhood.  The next day I might jog on the treadmill.  I’m also incorporating working on one of my new exercise goals -100 push-ups at once – into my exercise portion of Hour of Power.  Whatever type of exercise you choose to do is fine; what’s most important is that you commit to doing it!

The same goes for the meditation portion of the hour.  There are so many amazing meditation resources out there for everyone.  Find one that you feel connected to, and spend 20 minutes really grounding yourself.  There are so many different types of meditations CD and mp3s available, including FREE meditation downloads at iTunes.

And remember, you don’t need to be in a remote cave in India to meditate (although that would be pretty cool!).  You can meditate almost anywhere….in your home, at a park, at the beach or a lake.  Again, go with your internal guidance and find a place that you feel calm and present in, and use those 20 minutes to feed your mind, body, and soul.

And last but not least, the third portion of your Hour of Power is 20 minutes of reading.  Get your hands on positive, uplifting material – it could be from an online magazine, a book, journals or articles.  But again, find something that excites you and that you’ll look forward to reading.  By reading positive material, your subconscious will be emerged in the affirmative, which helps you to remain in that positive state throughout the day.

I’d suggest test-driving the Hour of Power for 30 days.  After 30 days, see what worked well and what didn’t.  Try moving your hour to different times of the day.  Did having your Hour of Power in the morning work better for you than having it at night?  Or vice versa?

Remember, you can always change the terms of your hour…it is YOUR Hour of Power.  But have fun with it.  And know that it’s extremely effective in centering you, uplifting you, and helping you create a powerful, positive day.

The DNA of Top Achievers by Chris Widener

Of course by now we are all becoming aware of DNA. It is the source code that determines who we are. When we look at DNA we can see what a person will look like, what diseases they may come down with, etc. This has been a tremendous breakthrough for scientists and will continue to be so for some time, I think.

This got me to thinking about what makes up those who are top achievers. Is there a “DNA” to them? Obviously, all top achievers wouldn’t have the same literal DNA but what about a figurative DNA? Is there a common “gene” that they all have? Are there common “genes” perhaps? I think so!

If we could get right down to it, I think these are the genes we would find in the DNA of top achievers:

A predisposition to setting high, lofty goals. Top achievers are people who won’t and can’t settle for the status quo. They see average as a place they want to keep in the rear-view mirror. Instead, they continually look for ways to stretch themselves, to get better, to do better, to be better! They set their sights on goals that others have never even thought of. They want to shoot so high that even if they miss, they go higher than everyone else. This is what makes them top achievers.

An ability to focus intently upon reaching their desired destination. Many people can set high goals, but just as many people get sidetracked by one thing or another on their way to those goals. High, lofty goals usually take a while to get there so there will always be plenty of time to be tempted to stray away from the road that is taking you to those goals. Often, those things that sidetrack people are good things, but not the best things. Top achievers do not get sidetracked. They stay focused. They know where they are going. They have an ability to say “no” to the good things in order to get to the best things.

The willingness to personally sacrifice in order to get to their goal. When the going gets tough, many people quit. When the going get tough personally, most people quit. When the going gets tough for top achievers, they remind themselves of the high. lofty goals they have set for themselves. They remind themselves of what an accomplishment it will be for them and that the reward is worth pushing through the momentary trials. They are willing to sacrifice personally in the short-term in order to get the reward and the prize long-term. Keeping their eyes on the big picture enables them to persevere through any personal pain they may experience.

A predisposition to tenacity. Tenacity is the ability to “keep on going.” Tough times? Keep on going! Financial troubles? Keep on going! People are suspect? Keep on going! You look like a dreamer? Keep on going! Tired? Keep on going! Want to quit and take it easy? Keep on going! Just remember this: Keep on going! The prize is ahead! Many people quit just before they were to get the reward, so keep on going!

The ability to see available resources and to use them accordingly. Those who are top achievers know that they cannot be lone-rangers on the way to the top. No one makes it by himself or herself. Top achievers recognize their weaknesses – the weaknesses that if they don’t cover will keep them from becoming a top achiever! They see their resources and they work to get them into a helping position so they can continue the route to becoming a top achiever. And they don’t use them, they utilize them. There is a big difference! People, finances, etc are all brought in to help by the top achiever.

A desire to help others achieve more for themselves as well. The top achiever knows that they can make a difference for others by becoming a top achiever. They know that the wealth they make can feed the hungry. They know that the position of influence they achieve can open a door for someone who may not normally get a chance. True top achievers look at how they can bring many with them, not how they can leave many in the dust. People are helped by the top achiever, not trampled upon!

I think if we could get to the DNA of top achievers, the things we talked about above would be at the core and fiber of their beings. What about you? Did you recognize yourself at all? I hope so! The good news about the DNA we are talking about today as opposed to real DNA is that you can go out and work on top achiever DNA whereas you are stuck with real DNA. So if you lack a little in the above-mentioned areas, take heart – you can get better and work on them so that you can become a top achiever!

4 Secrets to Effortless Success

Effortless SuccessThroughout the past few years, as I’ve done research for new books, completed training courses and educational seminars, and throughout meeting amazing men and women all over the globe; I’ve become fascinated by the idea that all the “hard work” we’ve been doing to be successful, doesn’t always have to be so difficult and challenging.  Sometimes, it really can be effortless, simple, and fun.  It is called Effortless Success.

The idea of Effortless Success is something you are probably familiar with.  It’s similar to the concept of The Law of Attraction.  The Law of Attraction is based on the idea that if you are really in alignment with force energy, God, the universe, your higher-self (however you may choose to articulate it), and when we are truly in a state of joy, a state of abundance, a state of love, a state of faith…then what happens is just by wanting what we want, and simply declaring it, we send out a message to the universe, and the universe will respond by giving it to you.  A huge part of the universe responding positively though, is that we must create the right state of being for receiving what we ask for.  That means we have to be a vibrational match for whatever we want. So, if we want more abundance, we have to be in a state of abundance; and that is created by several factors, including:

1. Being in a State of Gratitude.

I do a lot of work now, both for myself and in my trainings, on gratitude, appreciation, acknowledgement, and also the inner state of joy.  So, for example, we must feel the way we want to attract, in order to attract it.

W. Clement Stone, a self-made multi-millionaire from Chicago, who was my first mentor in the area of success, taught that when you visualize something, one should always feel the feelings that you would feel as if you already had it. He said that this is actually more important than the visual image.  So, what this means is we should engage our full sensory array of emotions, thoughts, and visualization of auditory, visual, and kinaesthetic as it relates to our goal.  When you put yourself into this state of what you would be feeling as if you already had achieved or received what you want, you create this vibrational match I spoke about earlier. What so many of us are doing is deciding what we want, stating it, and then getting in the way of it.  We send contradictory messages out to universe by having doubts, and by continually wondering ‘Am I going to get it?’ I’ve learned that wondering really means we don’t have absolute faith that we will get it.  So how do we be sure and not wonder?  The next step is to be in a state of certainty.

2. Being in a State of Certainty

We need to be in a state of certainty, which is a state of total, certain belief.  An example of this is the following: If I were at home and about to sit down in one of my dining rooms chairs, I don’t hope that it will hold me up, I don’t wonder if it will hold me up, I know it will hold me up.  I have direct experience of that, so I have certainty; we need to create that same level of certainty about the things we want to manifest.  So, decide what it is you want and state it clearly in your mind.

When we say things like:

  • “I want that car, but I can’t afford it
  • I want that car, but I’ll probably never get it”
  • Someday I hope I can have that car

…we are uncertain and lacking faith (because hoping is thinking that I might not be able to, and doubt, fear, judgment, and low self esteem all get in the way of allowing this thing to manifest what you’ve decided you want to flow into your life).  My experience has been that when I really, truly want something, truly believe and know in my heart, “yes I’m going to get that” - I proceed, follow my intuition, and then it happens.

3. Act on Inspirations.

When your message is sent out to the universe, you have to start acting on inspirations.  In other words, we get what I call inspired motivations to take action.  For example, I’m walking down the street, and I have this sense to go into the bookstore and see what’s there.  If I honour that, then I invariably find a book that is exactly what I need for whatever I’m trying to create in my life.  Or, alternatively, I think I should just stop working and go out for lunch. I did that the other day actually.  I sat down in a restaurant alone, a man sat down nearby, and we started a conversation.  He was someone who had the resources that I needed to manifest one of my goals. So you never know where the resource is going to come from. You have to trust.

Learn to trust your intuition.  Trust that the people that come into your life are there for a purpose.  They are being sent, or are being attracted by the law of attraction. Then, start to ask ‘What purpose is this person serving in the unfolding of my life, my desires and my goals?’

4. Let it go!

You also have to be able to let it go. I describe this by explaining to people that if you order a pizza from the pizza delivery service, you don’t call every two minutes to ask if they are working on your pizza!  So many people think that they have to keep reminding the universe of their request.  I believe that you just need to get out of the way. There are some things that you can do as a daily discipline (like meditation and keeping a gratitude journal), so that you’re ready to receive it, but remember that the order has been placed. Some people get in the way by not being a vibrational match, and then they don’t act on these impulses, these intuitive hits of inspiration, of ideas, all the things that seem like synchronistic events that are actually being created by holding the vision clearly.

Remember, success does not have to be difficult.  It can be easy, fun, and natural.  So think about some of your goals, follow this 4-step process, and watch how effortless success and results show up in your life!
